For our final Visual Arts assignment, we were given the topic Architecture and we needed to find out more about it.
I decided to use the traditional malay houses and one of the more modern houses from Malaysia. To start things off, the traditional malay house are traditional dwellings, used way before the arrival of the foreign and modern buildings. The traditional house were constructed by the ethinic Malay. While the modern house are constucted by different architects all over.
Personally, I feel that it is quite amazing how the old houses were built. Even way back then, the buildings are often built without the use of metal, even the nails. The materials they used were natural. Things like timber and bamboo. While the modern houses have the resources for the materials. The traditional house are so flexible that even after it's been built, it could be easily dismantled and recontrusted in a new location. While the modern house has to be demolished and it would need new materials to built a new one from the ground up.
But unfortunately, one of the draw backs of the old traditional house is the climate conditions that it faces and it being made from natural materials, it also has termite problems to deal with. While for the modern house it is not a problem as the materials that is uses are strong enough to withstand the climate conditions.
